Did you mishear it about going to USA?

This was one of the first questions we asked ourselves, but we wholeheartedly believe we didn’t. The image and word that Ramon received during his quiet time were so specific, that it couldn’t be from our own imaginations. Besides that we’ve received a lot of (different) confirmations that we were on the right path and understood correctly.

How will you combine travel with the kids and their education?

Even before America and now the new plans were even a speck on our radar, Ramon and I couldn’t find a school that fit our beliefs. Based on that, after extensive research we decided to homeschool Jeremiah. When our mission became part of our lives, this form of education turned out to fit our missionary-work life better as well. Jeremiah gets ‘real’ classes every day, based on the goals set by the Dutch government for primary education. The traveling is probably going to make biology, geography and history a lot more interesting. Also for the social development of the kids we believe the traveling will really help, since they’re going to have to communicate with people from all kinds of cultures and ages.

Are you still going to live abroad?

For now we believe that we can keep the Netherlands as our homebase, from which we travel for Bakkers Beyond Borders. We’re super thrilled about this, since one of our family’s pillars is that we built our family on a multigenerational life. Having our homebase in the Netherlands allows our kids to be close to (great)grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins and learn from them.

Moving somewhere else and changing our homebase, we will only do if we believe this is something God is asking us to do.

Why will you live mission-funded and don’t you do this next to a normal job?

The assignment God gave us cannot be combined with a regular job. We’ll travel a lot and even when we’re in the Netherlands we’ll have a lot of preparatory and administrative work to do. Living mission-funded sounds like something scary and insecure, but that’s not true. We’re building an amazingly strong team of devoted partners, that are investing in us and our work. With that, they are automatically investing in missionaries all over the world.

How can I be part of your team of partners?

If you’re interested in becoming a part of our team of partners, we’d love to have you. Before we do so, we would love to have a cup of coffee with you, to get to know you. During that meeting we share our vision and how you can help us get there. If by the end of the conversation you decide to join our team, we’ll help you get started.
